I (Jo speaking) am vertically impaired. As in: I am short. While I was growing up, my mother and I had a bet going… I believed I would be taller than her 5″4 inches and she believed I would be shorter.
I remember the day like it was yesterday. I was 13 years old at the time and I went in to the doctor because my heel was continuously hurting during soccer, so I had x-rays done. The doctor looked at my x-rays and- good news! Nothing was wrong with my foot! Bad news! I was done growing! So I ended up at 5″1 and 3/4 (yes that 3/4 is important thank-you very much). Now mom likes to rub it in that she is an “average” height while I am “below average”. Whatevs. Short people are WAY cooler. What I lack in height I make up in spirit.
Sometimes, when Eric and I are walking to a store and we have to step up a curb he will yell “jump!” to me. Sigh. Life is rough. So what does this have to do with a kitchen you ask? Well, calm down I am getting there.
This Christmas, we got a new kitchen. Hooray! Ok, fine its not really a functional kitchen, its more like a play kitchen for lil’ miss Iris. My mom found it at a used toy store in Kalamazoo and bought it. She brought it up in August and I said I wanted to wait until Christmas to give it to her.
Fun fact about me; I am the queen of giving presents early. Aw man guys, it was SO HARD TO WAIT. Ahhhhhh. Everyday I had a sudden urge to go into the basement and bring up that kitchen. But I waited. And waited. And waaaaaaaaited. On Christmas day, we waited until she took her nap to set it up. We set up the fridge and stove, the table and chairs, and we even set up some of the food.
IT IS THE CUTEST KITCHEN EVER. And, whats awesome about this kitchen is that I can reach EVERYTHING. I really think everything should be tiny, it would be so adorable and more convenient. Anyways, without further ado- here is my Iris’s new kitchen.
Isn’t that stuff adorable? Poor Eric, he is going to be eating fake food for a long time coming. I am really good at putting together a fake sammy. Delicious.

The table and chairs we found at an estate sale and my mom reupholstered them in this fun blue color. And I hope you noticed the cleaning supplies in the corner. She has so much fun taking the broom and hitting Phoebe with it.
Anyways, if you need me- I will be in the kitchen. The lil’ kitchen.
