Happy Thursday! Wait, its Thursday right? For the record, I was convinced it was Monday on Tuesday. I was walking around going “Monday Monday Monday!” and Eric was like; “uhhh you know its Tuesday right?”
Ooops.
To begin, Iris’s car is still not done. So don’t get super excited. It is assembled and she has figured out that she can use it to ram into things, so that part is exciting- for Iris at least.
I want to make some flowers out of plastic bottles to cover up the ugly oops bits of her car. Unfortunately we do not purchase anything in plastic bottle form so we need to begin collecting.
Anyways- Eric, Iris and I were in a wedding last weekend! Look, we are actually smiling in this photo! So proud.
Iris refused to get in the picture, the DJ had some awesome lights going on so she was busy stepping on them. It was kind of like the laser pointer cat game, but with a toddler. She lasted about 10 seconds going down the aisle, and then we handed her off to Grandma and Grandpa.
I wanted to share the gift I made for our dear friends, Nick and Jena. I knew I wanted to make something personalized for them, and I love portraits- so a portrait of their family sounded like a great way to go. I also love natural wood grain, the appearance makes me a happy camper. I went out into our shop and found this decent sized piece of wood and decided it would make a pretty good canvas. I sanded it and got it all ready, I printed off reference pictures of the happy family and began.
As I went along I took pictures, so it gets progressively less creepy from start to finish.
And here it is completed!
I am not the best painter. In fact, acrylics make me really mad when I work with them. I was really excited that this process did make me furious. I didn’t try to light this piece on fire once- I am growing up so fast. Normally I will paint and then trace with marker, but the marker just bled into the wood grain so I had to paint every outline. Slow and steady. Overall I am happy with the outcome.
On the way home from the wedding our car got a little mad. So Eric dropped Iris and I off at Birch Run while he took it in for an emergency oil change. Iris and I walked to Toys ‘R’ Us and we ended up finding this Moana doll:
This is her camped in the middle of the store just going “ooooooooooo Moana. Woooooooooooow” over and over until Eric found us. Yes we bought it. We can’t say no to that face. We have already decided that Iris’s 2nd birthday party was going to be a robot theme, well now it is a Robot Moana Luau. We keep asking her “robot or Moana?” and she says “yes”. Well, that makes for an interesting birthday theme.
So I drew her a robot Moana, space voyager.
And here is another sketchbook picture I completed yesterday. We are supposed to do a lil’ drawing everyday and so of course I have done 2 in a week. GO ME!
And thats a wrap!
